With the little magician Phil Coutinho looking more and more likely to make a move to Barcelona, we take a look at 10 players who could replace him at Liverpool.
- Thomas Lemar
The French international has long been linked to Liverpool & Arsenal, who both failed in their attempts to bring him to the premier league in the summer.
It is believed that the player would prefer a move to Liverpool and with the sale of Coutinho the club could afford the £90m it would take to get Lemar from Monaco.
2. Riyad Mahrez
Jurgen Klopp is a know admirer of the Leicester City playmaker, saying earlier this season
“[Mahrez] is a fantastic player to be honest,” Klopp said in a press conference.
“I can imagine a lot of clubs are interested in him”
Mahrez is another player who had a failed attempt to move away from his club in the summer but like Coutinho he has knuckled down at Leicester, showing glimpses of why he was PFA player of the year in 2016.
Stylistically he is similar to Coutinho plus he would not be cup tied for Champions League.
Another player that Jurgen Klopp is a known admirer of and a player that Klopp has previously worked under at Borrusia Dortmund.
Liverpool have already failed to bring Pulisic to Anfield in the past, with German club unwilling to sell and the player seemingly settled at Dortmund any move with seem unlikely.
But we have already seen that Dortmund will sell their players for a price, if Liverpool were to offer the right amount they could bring the US international to Anfield.
The Lyon playmaker has been in scintillating form this season, scoring 13 goals for the French outfit in only 16 games.
He has a sweet left foot and can play in a wide or attacking midfield position, at 24 he is coming into the prime of his career, he has 3 years left on his contract so would not come cheap however he would seem the most natural player to succeed Phil.
You can’t do one of these list without adding the German international Draxler, he is the one player that makes most sense.
Jurgen Klopp tried to sign him previously before he went to PSG, The French club do need to recoup money to stay in line with FFP so selling Draxler would not be a issue & like Coutinho Draxler can play the attacking midfield and wide positions.
However since he has already turned down Liverpool in the past which reportedly left Klopp very disappointed, I can’t see the Liverpool manager going back in this window.
