Liverpool have opened talks with AS Roma over a possible deal to bring goalkeeper Alisson Becker to Anfield next season.
Loris Karius has recently been given the chance to cement himself as the Liverpool number 1 and has made some impressive performances of late, however with Simon Mignolet destined to leave the club it would seem likely that Liverpool will look bring in a keeper to challenge for the number 1 shirt..
Any deal for Alisson would not come cheap, initial suggestions were he would cost in the region of £40m but former Roma goalkeeping coach Roberto Negrisolo thinks he has worth far more.
Is Alisson worth €50million (£45m)? Don’t be silly, he’s worth far more than that,” Negrisolo told Il Romanista.
“I don’t think many people have realised who Alisson is. This guy is a phenomenon. Alisson is the number one of number ones. He is the Messi of goalkeepers, because he has the same mentality as Messi. He is a goalkeeper who can mark an era.
“There is absolutely no comparison with Gianluigi Donnarumma, because Alisson is extraordinary.
“The way he behaves in the goal, he reminds me of Dino Zoff. I’d also compare him to Michel Preud-Homme, who had the class of someone born to be a goalkeeper.”
After selling Salah to Liverpool last summer for a mere £36m, they would be at pains to lose another one of their star players for a similar amount of money after seeing how far Salah has come since his move.
Roma sporting director recently revealed why he felt the Reds got such a bargain with the Egyptian King.
“In the end, with bonuses, we got €50 million for him, which is a figure I don’t feel is the best for him right now,” Monchi told Sky Sport Italia .
“It’s still double what their first offer was, and at the time we needed to sell and he already had an agreement with Liverpool, so we couldn’t do anything else.
“The Neymar and Kylian Mbappe transfers changed the market, but at that moment it was necessary that we sell.”
