As the song goes “Oh when the Saints go marching in, Oh when the Saints go marching in, I want to be in that number, Oh when the Saints go marching in.
Is Victor Wanyama about to march into the Saints club at Anfield ?
According to reports from The Daily Mail, Liverpool are keeping an eye on developments with Tottenham Hotspur’s Kenyan midfielder.
The former Southampton midfielder joined Spurs in 2016 for a fee of £11m on a 5 year deal, however injury and the resurgence of form of Moussa Dembele has seen the appearances of Wanyama limited to a couple of starts in the FA Cup & coming on as a substitute in league games.
Including recently against Liverpool where he scored a thunderbolt to draw Spurs level, with Emre Can about to leave the club and the Reds lacking a natural holding midfielder a move for Wanyama would make sense.
Liverpool are known for signing players with a Southampton connection with Jurgen Klopp already signing three, Sadio Mane, Virgil Van Dijk & Alex Oxlade Chamberlain have all played for the South Coast club.
“There have been a lot of good players from that area [Southampton],” Klopp said, as quoted by a Liverpool Echo journalist, James Pearce. “Maybe we should have our scouting department down there.”
The Anfield club would have a fight on their hands to get Victor Wanyama with Manchester United & Chelsea also interested.
